Bad Boy Records Kills Careers
Bad Boy Records CEO Sean “Puffy” Combs, apparently changes his artist roster more than he changes his name. In the wake of Danity Kane’s demise, Bad Boy’s long history of dropping some of its hottest acts and replacing them with freshly packaged carbon copies serves as a warning to unsigned artist everywhere. When Mary J. Blige’s public image was plagued with drug use, Puffy gave us Faith Evans. When girl group Dream (the original Danity Kane) got boring, Puffy sent out a casting call to replace them. When hip-hop lost music icon Biggie, Puffy resurrected him through Shine (and we all know what happened to him).
So, here’s a tribute to the artists on Bad Boy Records whose careers have come and gone:
1. Total 1996-1998
2. The Lox 1998-2000(may return from the dead as D-block on Def Jam)
3. Shine 1999-2000
4. Dream 2000-2001
5. Da Band (Making The Band 2) 2003-2003
6. B5 2003-2007
7. Danity Kane 2006-2008
8. Cheri Dennis 2006-( critically ill due to lack of promotion)
